One of the many Youth Baseball Fields around the Temple area.
The field was dedicated and named after my father Billy Wiseman in 1992. There are two fields right beside each other. Both men were huge volunteers in the area with youth and especially youth baseball. The field named "Billy Wiseman Jr. Memorial Field" was the field where I would at age six watch my father as he would practice with his mens softball team and also coach little league ballplayers on his own time. He coached teams and also gave private lessons free of charge for love of the sport and for the children. My father played proffesional baseball for the Montreal Expos for several years after major league baseball he went to work for Santa Fe Railroad and coached little league baseball in the Temple area for several more years. In 1990 I lost my father to a heart attack. I was a little girl then only age six. I can still recall my first ever practice game was held on my daddy's field. Over the years the field has lost some of it's charm and has not been well taken care of, I have asked the City of Temple to try and refurbish the field in honor of my father and for all the youth who still play on it. Since then they have taken down the huge original sign that displayed my father's name and combined the two field's names on to one large sign. The fence is in need of bad repair and the duggouts as well. However, as I visited the field today I was happy to see neighborhood children playing ball on my father's field. I could feel his presence there and I knew he was with us and the children who were playing. My daddy called my his "Little Pumpkin" he was a very tall and large man with a thunderous voice and yet somehow everytime he spoke my name or called me "Little Pumpkin" it would sound as soft and gentle as a baby kitten. So as geocachers we decided this was the perfect place for a cahce. It will once again bring family's and friends here together in seek of a treasure. Please feel free to take a moment and play some ball and have a game on my father's field. As you circle the bases and head for home, or as you start to leave please take a moment to say hello to my father who I'm sure is watching with a smile. "I LOVE YOU DADDY"
Forever
Your Pumpkin
