Welcome to the Nassau County Historical Series #1- Franklin Square. This is the first of a series of caches I’ll be hiding throughout Nassau County’s historical sites. This one is a historical site in my hometown, Franklin National Bank.
Under the leadership of Arthur T. Roth, the bank had accomplish many great things such as Junior Savings Accounts, drive-in teller windows, a no smoking policy on banking floors, outdoor teller machines, the Certificate of deposit, and most importantly the credit card.
On October 8, 1974 the bank collapsed under the leadership of Michele Sindona. (Who had ties to the Mafia and the Nixon scheme.) Because of Sindona, the bank was brought down for mismanagement and fraud, involving losses in foreign currency speculation and poor loan policies. It was the worst collapse of a bank in U.S history at the time. It was later purchased by other companies.
This cache is a small nano hidden at the site of the old bank.
