Geocache Description:

Castle Raw, Castleraw, lies in the countryside east of the village of Loughgall, west of the town of Portadown, in County Armagh, in Northern Ireland.

I could find very little information on this monument but it appears to have been built in 1618-19 by an Anthony Cope.

The castle appears to have been a 3 storied fortified house in cruciform shape built within a square entrenchment. The ruins comprise a semi-basement and 2 upper floors. Only the northern wall of the western wing now stands to approximately original height, the rest of the walling being largely reduced to foundations. The remains are very much overgrown.

The ruins of Castle Raw are situated at the corner of a field and can easily be viewed from the road. The vantage point of the castle gives fantastic panoramic views of Armagh and further.

Cache: a 35mm container with log and pencil. Have fun!
