Geocache Description:

Although not the oldest house standing in Loudon County it's builder, George Bowman, was possibly the first white man to build a permanent home among the Indians in the area.

George Bowman was born in Germany on September 20, 1772 and landed in New York in 1802. The Bowman House was built in 1828. John Bowman had good relations with the nearby Cherokee's in the Indian town of Coytee (see my cache GC1H29A which is very near where Coytee was located). They assisted him in farming and he in turn taught them to make clothing and construct wells and cisterns. Bowman was the first white man to preach the Indians of the settlement. The house is on the National Register of Historic Places.

You seek a Lock&Lock that is hidden at the beginning of what used to be Bowman Rd or Bowman Cemetery Rd (I can't remember which). The house is surrounded by Tellico Village now and is tricky to find. I've posted the coordinates to the house so you can find it on your own. It's privately owned right now. I'll also post the coordinates to the family cemetery which is lost and forgotten amongst the enormous homes in the area.

Most of the description came from the beautiful book "Landmarks of Loudon County" by Joe Spence.
