About the film:
THE TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON, made in 1956, is an interesting
comedy. Based on a hit play, and narrated by a Japanese villager
(played by Marlon Brando) the story begins one year after World War
II, and Captain Fisby (played by Glenn Ford) is sent to a little
village in Okinawa to teach the locals all about American
democracy. In the end it's the American army officers who learn
about the village's culture and traditions. The plan was to build a
school – but the locals cleverly persuade them to build
something they really want: a teahouse. Great performances
through-out with a stand-out role by the wonderful Paul Ford who
recreates his broadway character.
