Geocache Description:

Taken from the DNRT website:

Smith Farm is a 140 acre-protected gem, containing almost all the habitats found in Dartmouth: agricultural farmland, meadows, upland forest, and freshwater wetland, wetland forest, ponds, streams and salt marsh.

The wetland woods are carpeted with luxuriant growth of various mosses, mounds of sphagnum moss, fern and innumerable clear pools and rivulets, a paradise for the varieties of frogs, salamanders and turtles. Several well-constructed bridges and boardwalks allow walkers access to the wooded wetlands without wet feet.

Another special feature is a large manmade horseshoe-shaped trout pond with clear and deep waters ringed by a narrow trail. Beyond this, a new trail leads to an observation platform overlooking the Nonquitt Salt Marsh.

Historically the old farm was owned by James Henry Smith, who purchased the property in 1898 and used it for dairy farming until the 1950s.

About the cache:

This cache is named for a Little Brown Chipmunk I saw while I was walking down the trail.  He scampered out of a hidey hole, sat on a rock for a little while (he looking at me ... me looking at ...him?  ...her?), and then scampered into another little hidey hole after he had had enough of the stare-down.  I had a ready-made cache in the car, so I went and got it, found a hidey spot, and placed the cache.  Here's to the Little Brown Chipmunk ... it brought a smile to my face, and I hope the cache brings one to yours!

Please re-hide as good (or better) as you find.  Estimated accuracy of the coordinates was 8.5' (within acceptable range).  Take a good look around GZ ~ there's lots of hidey places.  The cache is not in or near any stone walls.  Please do not disturb them ... they're protected by Massachusetts Law and violators are subject to fine and/or arrest.

This is a BYOP (bring your own pencil) cache.
Parking is off the side of the road, near the Reserve's sign.

DNRT website for Smith Farm ~ there's a link to print a trailmap
... it's a good idea to print one because there weren't any in the kiosk box when I was there.

There's also another cache at the Reserve ~ "GC24QB8 - Plan B"
