Geocache Description:

ROC on Callander

Geocache originally placed by Scottiedogz in 2010.

Callander ROC. Date opened September 1963
This is a Royal Observer Corps bunker now disused since 1991.

Interestingly this cache being published co-incided with a ROC in England being sold for £20,000 on a well known online auction site!

As far as we know, none of the Scottish ROC's are privately owned. What would you do with it?? At least the Callander ROC is in a beautiful scenic part of the country, not that you would see much of it from down below. Some ROCs such as Skelmorlie post in Ayrshire and Kilchattan Bay post on the Isle of Bute have been restored but we are not aware of any plans for Callander. Location of the ROC On a low mound in a square compound with one telegraph pole on the west side of a dead end un-named minor single track road which runs up to Braeleny Farm, north of the Bracklin Falls car park. It is possible to drive up the steep tarmac road from Bracklin but there are no parking places and only a few turning spots. if you do drive up please make sure that all gates which are shut are closed behind you. It is a working farm road and you may meet tractors or animals in your way. Status of the ROC - LOCKED All surface features remain intact with some flaking of the dark green paint. The access shaft stands on a raised concrete apron. The hatch is locked but can be opened with a Scottish 'T' bar key. Internally the post is flooded to a depth of 18". Remaining artifacts include the table, shelf, cupboard, bed frame, WB1401 carrier receiver with WB1410 filter unit, Tele-talk, battery box, rope, BT junction box and wiring.
