A micro cache on a nice 10 mile walk.
Welcome to Pharmjoe’s Apothecary – a series of caches that will take you on a nice 10 mile circular walk along paths, tracks and country roads around Long Riston, Rise and Arnold. The walk is best started in Long Riston where there is plentiful parking and the caches followed in order - returning to Long Riston at the end for a well earned drink at the local! Each cache is named after a plant with pharmacological or therapeutic properties.
Other caches in this series are:
Foxglove
Hemp
Belladonna
Salix
Cinchona
Dock
Fennel
Chilli Pepper
Aloe Vera
Each cache contains a mystery letter. Collect each letter and unscramble them to make a ten letter word. This word can then be used to find the co-ordinates to the Apothecary Bonus Cache. Good Luck.
Not suprisingly, the Opium Poppy gives us opium which is the latex like substance that oozes from the poppy head when scratched. Its main active ingredient is Morphine which is widely used as a painkiller for patients in severe pain. The morphine molecule has been refined and chemically altered in labs to form many other 'opiate' products such as Diamorhine (heroin), Oxycodone and Fentanyl. All of which are used to help people in chronic severe pain. And (sigh) yes, they are addictive.... enough said!
