Do it in Stile

Great Notley Country Park covers some 100 acres of open space and has a number of unusual and distinctive features including: pleasant walks, an open air amphitheatre known as the Great Notley Bowl, 6 acres of lakes, incorporating extensive reed habitat and bank-side vegetation, which are rich in wildlife. There are a number of hillocks throughout the park most of which are capped with young wood copses. These provide ideal habitats for small birds and rabbits. The ditch and hedgerows running through the park are remnants of the old agricultural layout. Lined with old oak trees these hedgerows are inhabited by a great number of insects and birds.

Great Notley Country Park also contains large meadows. Some of which are cut for hay, others are left to establish as wild flower meadows, an important habitat for insects and ground nesting birds such as the skylark.

Five small ponds are scattered in the park as well, some of which dry up in summer - again another sort of habitat! The park includes a number of mature species of native trees. Elsewhere, bats have made their homes in the grassland and wild flower meadows.

Walking, cycling, jogging and horse riding can all be enjoyed in the park and beyond with its links to the Flitch Way in the north and the bridleway in the south. A variety of activities and events are held throughout the year. Families can picnic or fly kites or, for the more energetic, there is an all-weather, multi-activity, floodlit pitch and two grass football pitches. There's also an excellent visitor centre, housed in the award-winning Discovery Centre. An outstanding example of sustainable architecture, this has been designed with construction materials, which ensure low maintenance and energy consumption to reduce the impact on the environment.

There used to be a stile here, honest!

Stealth is required as the Cache is placed close to a busy path.
