Tall sagebrush is Nevada's state flower. It grows throughout the state of Nevada, and over much of the West including Oregon. In rich, well watered soil it can grow as tall as 8 feet. In poorer, dryer soil the plant remains small, sometimes only reaching one foot in height.
The sagebrush is an important source of nutrition for many animals. It was also widely used by Native Americans for clothing, household items, medicine, and shelter.
