McCurtain City Park is right on Hwy 31. There is a small lake here but it is sad to say that this area is not well-kept as it should be. Evans Lake was once a popular place to fish but not sure if it is now.
There is a rock monument here with a plague that is dedicated to the miners that were killed in an explosion near here.
On March 20, 1912 about 9 AM an explosion occurred at mine #2 of the San Bois Coal Co. This is located at McCurtain, in Haskell County , Oklahoma. This was the most destructive on human life, when you consider the small amount of property damage.
While the explosion snuffed out the lives of 73 men, the damage to the property was hardly noticeable.
Lots of these men are buried in the nearby Minor's Cemetery.
Take the time to read the names of these men.
The hours posted on this park are daylight till dark. I am not sure it would be wise to be in the park after dark as I had two of McCurtain's finest drive out and check on me while there in the daylight.
The cache itself is a small pb jar and it is well hidden from view.
Please replace it in a way that hopefully it will not get muggled.
Congratulations to gspgirl for her FTF on this one. Especially doing it without a gps.
