Geocache Description:

Easy drive by cache, once again parking is situated next to the cache. Would be an easy one to find on a commute, however be carefull of those muggles as it is a busy area.

Please note when attempting this cache or any other cache placed by myself you do so at your own risk and responsibility.

There is no field called Upton Meadow on the Tithe Maps. The area referred to as Upton Meadow in modern times actually consists of parts of several fields, the main one being Wood Hay.

Upton Meadow was the last 50 acres of the land which had been part of Arrowehouse Farm.

In 1982 the ‘Friends of Upton Meadow’ was formed to protect the ancient field from development. Despite strong local protests, 14 acres of Upton Meadow were sold to Sainsbury’s for a supermarket and it was proposed that the remaing land should be sold for housing development.

Following massive protests from residents in both Upton and Greasby, and campaigning by the Friends, the Council agreed to lease the land to the Woodland Trust, provided that the Minister of the Environment agreed.

Finally, in March 1997, Wirral Borough Council granted a 99 year lease on the remaining 36 acres to The Woodland Trust.
