Geocache Description:

Container is a 1 lb coffee can with log book and small trade items located in a small park in Hillsboro. There is a presidential gold dollar for the FTF.

Cache is located in the small historic town of Hillsboro that was founded in the 1870;s after gold and silver were discovered here. At one time this was the county seat and was quite a bustling place but today is a very quiet little town. There are several small shops, a post office and two cafes that are open weekends and sometimes during the week. This is part of the Lake valley and Geronimo trail scenic byway. Very interesting history here. There were many Indian skirmishes in the area in the 1800's. This park has camping and bathroom facilities but no power or water. Is a really peaceful spot with a creek that was running pretty good water when we placed this but it usually dries up during the summer. There are many large cottonwoods along the river here and there is a birding trail here. Looks like a great area for lots of birds.
