Located on the path of the old Dunblane, Doune and Callander Railway.
Good fun at night but watch where you put your feet (so rated T2)
The cache is as near as you can get to where the Callander branch line split off from the main line to Perth (Scottish Central railway). In 1923, the line became part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS), becoming part of British Railways in 1948. This branch line closed in 1965.
The walk is along a short spur which survived the main cuts at the Dunblane end to serve Springbank Mill. This section closed along with the mill in 1971.
Only a very short section of the original line remains in place to the north of Dunblane station for use as a reversing spur, often with a track maintenance machine parked in it.
The line was double track to Doune from Dunblane having been originally single track. Before closure the line reverted to single track. There were sidings for the Dunblane Gasworks on the opposite (east) side of the mainline.
In Dunblane now most of the line has been obliterated by new housing.
There is a good path almost to the cache going under one of the railway bridges.
There are a number of ways into this. It is probably easiest from the path going down to the Faery Bridge by Springbank Mill.
This area can be rough after dark so I suggest you take the kids with you or send them to retrieve the cache
