Geocache Description:

A small box to find in a “stylish” place.

This is the fourth in a series of caches around Hutton Buscel.

Revenge Wood borders Hutton Buscel and Wyekham, North Yorkshire. The wood is open to the public and is located immediately adjacent to the A170 and Foth Hill adjoining the village of Hutton Buscel.

Revenge Wood is part of a national scheme being run by the Woodland Trust in association with the Society of Nautical Research to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar which was fought 200 years ago on 21st October 1805. Thirty Three woods are to be planted round the country: twenty seven will be named after the ships in the fleet at the battle and an additional six named after support vessels. Victory Wood, named after Nelson’s flag ship will be a 350 acre wood planted in Kent.
and will be the only commemorative wood in Yorkshire.

Each of the woods, established to mark the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar. This site was chosen because her captain, Robert Moorsom, heralded from Airy Hill, Whitby. Several of the crew also came from around Scarborough. HMS Revenge is one of the most illustrious names in the history of the Royal Navy, being Sir Francis Drake’s flagship during the Armada battles, Sir Richard Grenville’s command when he single handedly took on the Spanish fleet in the Azores and latterly being present at the Battle of Jutland and one of Britain’s nuclear submarines.

A reception was held at Wykeham Abbey to launch the wood, with several local dignitaries and politicians attending as well as one of the direct descendants of Captain Robert Moorsom, Jules Baraclough who had planted the first tree. Lord Downe noted in his speech “the Revenge wood will be the first wood planted at Wykeham in many years, which is not for the moral and physical well-being of pheasants!”

We hope you enjoy this cache – we also planted a couple of trees there with the local Schools.

Once again - there is no need to damage /remove anything to find this cache. Please replace as found.
