Muggles generally come and go quickly. The terrain is friendly for bikers, pedestrians, joggers, strollers, and wheel chairs, however, it has a bit of a slope to it.
We ride our bikes over this way regularly during the summer months and crossing Randall Rd is not a highlight of our trip! When we heard of a pedestrian bridge planned over Randall Road at Silver Glen Road, we were excited.
Construction started approximately on March 30, 2009 and finished in late November 2009. On Saturday, July 18, 2009, we saw signs that Randall Road would be shut down at Silver Glen that night through early Sunday morning. It was time to erect the primary steel structure. We figured it was a historical event, so we packed up all the Pickles and got there about 7PM and stayed until well past midnight to see the massive steel structure hoisted into place. It was our Saturday night entertainment and boy, it was really cold out! The little Pickles stayed up way past their bedtime and they were able to get their first true midnight snack at McDonald's.
We hope you enjoy being able to go over Randall Rd and not though it, for years to come!
Good luck!
$1 for FTF. (agent0013 takes the FTF honor)
Additional information from our geocachers:
"crzy1" had the opportunity to be one that did the 3D modeling for this project when it was in the design phase.
"Mr. Mulligan & Honey" said, This bike overpass was the combined effort of the St. Charles Park District, Kane County Division of Highways, and Kane County Forest Preserve. At a price tag of over 2 million, it was financed with Federal dollars at 80%. Due to the Federal process, it took over 13 years to see this to fruition. It's designed such that Randall Road can be expanded to a 6 lane highway without the need to ever modify the bike bridge.
