All along the foothills of the Jebel al Akhdar there are hot
water springs, which are a legacy of the fiery birth of these
mountains along the mid-ocean rift of the ancient Tethys ocean.
Most of these hot water springs have been embraced by the local
population as a source of cleansing and good health. This is also
the case in Baushar where the hot water, which gushes out of
various cracks in the rocks, is used for bathing or drinking. There
are two bath houses, one for ladies and one for gentlemen, that are
open to the public (free entry, open 24 hours). There is also one
particular spring, coordinates given below, which is used for
drinking. Special powers are attributed to this spring water. While
drinking the hot water one should make a wish, and upon revisiting
the location at a later date a small offering should be left behind
as a token of gratitude. Various small containers with sweets or
incense placed near to the spring are a testament to the curative
power of this water.
The cache is a small lock-n-lock container camouflaged in a
beige sock. It contains the usual logbook and pencil along with
several small items of swag. As always please be careful when
removing stones while searching for the cache. Snakes and scorpions
will often seek protection from the sun under anything which
provides a bit of shade. Please also be aware of muggles visiting
the springs. Strangers climbing all over the location are bound to
attract the attention of the regular visitors. Please leave only
your footsteps and a signature in the logbook behind. Keep Oman
clean!
