Geocache Description:

Highlandman's Way - above Rhu, near Helensburgh.
Can be nicely combined with 'Lost Dog'.

OVERVIEW
The cache can be approached from either Helensburgh or Rhu.
The cache could also form part of a nice circular walk starting at Hill House or one of the Helensburgh train stations.

START/PARKING
Helensburgh - start/park at Hill House (see more below) or further west at the reservoirs (next to the road in to Helensburgh from Loch Lomond).

Rhu - start/park on Pier Road (when approaching from Helensburgh turn R up hill just after entrance to marina) and walk up Station Rd and cross the railway.

AREA
Helensburgh - a planned 'new town'. New as in 1700s! Worth a wander around to look at the architecture (especially Victorian) and big houses in upper Helensburgh built by rich west of Scotland merchants.

The Hill House - one of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's masterpieces. Now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. Generally open from April - Oct. Afternoon only. Check NTS website for details.

Dino's Radio Cafe, Clyde St, Helensburgh - fantastic home-made ice cream in the first cafe in Scotland to have a public radio license. Buy one and sit down on the waterfront to enjoy.

Rhu (orginally Row but always pronounced 'Roo'!) - village and historic parish in a great spot on the junction of the Clyde and the Gareloch. Rhu is Gaelic for 'point' and named after the pointed spit which almost cuts the Gareloch off from the tidal Clyde. Worth a wander along to the end - you might see a submarine pass on its way to or from Faslane submarine base!
