Depending upon where you park, finding the cache can involve an invigorating hour-long hike up two ridges, or a shorter 20 minute hike in which you ascend only the second ridge. In fact, as a third option, you could drive to a well-known lookout point above the town of Pine Grove Mills where you can park your car and then walk directly along the Mid-State trail without having to ascend the ridge.
Once your GPS says you're there, look for three trees sharing the same roots. (Hint: All three trees have an elbow bend just above head height.)
The cache is in a clear 5-quart Rubbermaid tub with an off-white colored lid. On the lid, we wrote "geocaching.com" in black permanent marker. Inside we placed a spiral-bound index (with pen) to be used as an entry log for those finding the cache, as well as an assorted amount of useful and whimsical goodies, including: Silly Putty, scented candles, Chapstick, deck of poker playing cards, shoelaces, and tissues.
