Geocache Description:

Photobucket Photobucket

Bass River separates the towns of Yarmouth and Dennis. At its widest and most southerly point, it opens to and meets Nantucket Sound. The river begins as an underground stream, winds south to a brook and into Mill Pond. From there it flows into Follins Pond and on to the mouth between Smugglers Beach on the Yarmouth side and West Dennis Beach on the Dennis side (a total of almost 6 miles). This cache overlooks Marsh Island, a large land mass in the Bass River, and the sea captains’ homes in the Bass River section of South Yarmouth.

Please stay on the narrow path to the cache in order to avoid damaging the beach grass and poverty grass (in abundance here and used by early Cape Codders to stuff mattresses when hay was not available)

Drive all the way down Davis Beach Road along the one mile stretch of sand known as West Dennis Beach. During the summer season expect parking fees between the hours of 9AM-5PM.
