GOJO BRIDGE
The name of the bridge is thought to date back to the time of the “Kiyosu Goshi”of 1610(or Keicho 15)when the entire castle town of Kiyosu was moved to the area around Nagoya Castle.
Gojo Bridge was said to have spanned the Gojo River in front of the Kiyosu Castle.
Originally made of wood,the bridge was reconstructed in concrete in 1938. The inscription on the ornamental(metal)knobs now preserved in Nagoya Castle reads“Gojo Bridge,Keicho 7,Year of the Tiger,June, Lucky Day”.
五条橋は、堀川がつくられたころにかけられた「堀川七橋」の一つです。
かつて、清須城下の五条川に架けられていた橋を、清須越（慶長15年（１６１０）より行われた清須よりの町ぐるみの引越しをいう。）の際に、この地に移され、橋の名前もこれに由来するといわれる。
元は木橋であったが、昭和13年（１９３８）にコンクリート橋に掛け替えられた。元の橋にあった擬宝玉には「五条橋、慶長七年壬刀六月吉日」の銘があり、現在は名古屋城に保存されている。
