THE GCGC STORMS MARTHA'S CASTLE

Mark your calendar and plan to join the Greater Charlotte Geocaching Club on Saturday, May 22nd for a full day of fun at Martha Rivers park in Gastonia, NC! The day begins at 10:00 AM with a full host of activities.

Our morning activities at Martha's are jam packed with fun for the whole family! Join us under the shelter located at the coordinates where we'll enjoy...
  • A Children's scavenger hunt with prizes for all!
  • Starting of the "Pin the flag on ground zero" contest
  • Starting of the "Guess the micros" contest
  • A HUGE "castle" playground for the little ones (and maybe a few big ones) to explore
  • Volleyball/Horseshoes/Frisbee for those that like to play
  • And much more…
  • Plus.....A very special "Interstate Throwdown"!! - Hide Times Session (see below). This will be the first half of the competition. The second half will be during our afternoon activities.

Following the morning activities and starting at 1:00 PM, we will break and begin our CITO (Cache In Trash Out) event, "The GCGC Sweeps Martha's Castle", in efforts to help keep our parks clean. Drinking water and trash bags will be provided during the CITO event. More info can be found on the event page.

After the conclusion of the CITO around 2:30 PM, we will begin our afternoon of fun with a Hot Dog lunch (see details below). Then will continue with a fun afternoon of entertainment as we continue until 7:00PM with...
  • The Post-CITO wrapup group picture and cookout with all the fixin's.
  • The Children's scavenger hunt with prizes for all! (for those not able to attend the mornings activities)
  • Conclusion to the "Pin the flag on ground zero" contest with a winner announced
  • Conclusion to the "Guess the micros" contest with a winner announced
  • And much more…
  • Plus.....The very special "Interstate Throwdown"!! - Race Time (see below). This will be the finale to the competition and where the REAL FUN begins. A winning team will be rewarded during this event with bragging rights to begin. An award will also be given to the winning team.

Feel free to join us at Shelter #1 for as little or as much of the day's events as possible, rain or shine. Please be sure to log your "will attend" (along with total # planning to eat lunch) so we can plan accordingly.

Food after the CITO
Hot Dogs, Buns, Condiments, Plates, Utensils and Drinks will be provided. Please bring your own favorite side dishes to share with the group.

Interstate Throwdown
For the first time, we're teaming up with (or against, depending how you look at it) our neighbors to the south, the YoGO (York County Geocaching Organization - www.yogosc.org), for a little friendly geocaching competition. During the morning activities, members from each organization will hide 10 pre-made caches for the opposing team to find. After the CITO, during the evening activities, we will then send out the groups on timed runs to find the containers. The team with the fastest overall time wins bragging rights and will thereby be authorized to taunt their opponents mercilessly for the remainder of the day! For more information on this competition, please visit the Details and Rules page. For discussions or questions, please visit our Martha Rivers Park Event and CITO discussion board on our website.

Martha and her castle are waiting for you.....don't miss it!!
