My wife's parents gave me a geocaching kit for my birthday last
month, which also included a nice lock-and-lock cache container. We
actually tried placing it in the Middlesex Fells last weekend, but
then discovered that another cache had been placed in almost
exactly the same spot (a mere 40 ft away) the previous day. So we
moved it to this park: Menotomy Rock Park in Arlington.
It's a very nice park with a pond, a playground, a few trails
and already two other geocaches, but we felt there was space for
another one and so we went there today on Easter Sunday 2010 and
looked for a good spot to put it. Our kids suggested the name for
the cache, even though their Nana and Grandad were not along for
the walk in the park today (they are actually in California
visiting Death Valley right now!). But maybe they can come and
visit the cache named in their honor next time they are in the
Boston area.
This is a fairly small park and there are houses not far from
the cache. Please respect the neighbors and be discreet in your
search.
A small amount of off-trail walking uphill will be required, but
no real bushwhacking, at least not when we placed the cache
today.
Recommended parking for Menotomy Rock Park is at the end of
Churchill Ave/Valley Rd. There is also an entrance to the park from
Jason St, and you may be able to park in the street there, although
not right at the entrance.
Congrats to shutterbc on the FTF!
