Geocache Description:

Oregon Trail Series: Scenic overlook

Thousands of emigrants crossed southwestern Idaho between 1843 and 1870
on their way to the Willamette River valley in Oregon.

With their possessions loaded in wagons pulled by oxen, they struggled across the dusty sagebrush-covered desert in search of a new home and a better life. The Idaho desert proved to be some of the most dangerous and difficult travel that they endured.

From Rattlesnake Creek the Oregon Trail runs west of the foothills through private property. Immigrant road is a narrow dirt road that follows the route of a toll road for freight traffic heading the Rocky Bar area mines. The original road is still visible in several places.

The geocache is located on Immigrant Road at an area with a view of the valley.
