Geocache Description:

PrincessDiala’s third cache will take you to the location of a former state school.

I discovered it late last year when I needed to hire a venue for a meeting.
I had no idea of the history of this building prior to opening up the doors..

Located on the corner of Kiora Street and Cameron Avenue in Altona Meadows is the Old Laverton School.
It was a single room school house built in 1888 and is the last of its kind in the Melbourne metropolitan area.
It is a rare surviving example of a relatively intact nineteenth century one-room brick school, which illustrates the types of standard schools that were erected during the late nineteenth century.

Some other interesting historical information that can be found here: (visit link)

If you're lucky enough to pass by when its doors are opened, ask if you can sticky beak inside.
The walls are lined with black and white photos. This includes pictures of this building when it was run down, during renovation, class photos and other bits and pieces relating to the history of this area.

The cache is a magnetic key-holder with a logbook and a pen.
As always, please be careful when retrieving and replacing this cache.
