Lettered Olive Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ninja Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

The Cache container is a camoed rectangular lock n lock. Inside it there is a log and a smaller container holding lettered olive shells. BYOP

The lettered olive is a species of large predatory sea snail. South Carolina designated the lettered olive (Oliva Sayana) as the official state shell in 1984. An early pioneer in conchology, Dr. Edmund Ravenel of Charleston, South Carolina, found and named the lettered olive seashell. This shiny cycindrical shell has chesnut-brown markings on it which look vaguely like letters of the alphabet. The shell may be as tall as 2 1/2 inches.

While my wife and I walk the beaches of Myrtle Beach, SC we often find lettered olive shells. We decided to share these with fellow cachers. Please take one as a souvenir of the find as long as they last.
