4th Annual Cedar Rapids CITO Extravaganza!

PRESENTED BY

AB-n-AP

Welcome to our annual Cedar Rapids Area CITO event: The Cedar Rapids CITO Extravaganza! The plan for this annual event is to change locations each and every year in an effort to keep the event fresh, fun, adventurous, productive, and helpful to Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area.

This year we'll be cleaning a portion of lower Van Vechten Park which has had a hefty amount of illegal garbage dumping. We will venture away from the main park and venture into the wooded area in south Van Vechten Park. CAUTION: Their are VERY STEEP hills in some areas, please do not climp up or down these hills and only trek where you feel comfortable. Their is a lot of trash and garbage in this relatively small area with sizes ranging from tiny pieces of paper to giant bulky items.
If you don't feel comfortable going into certain areas, you most certainly do not have to.

Heavy duty trash bags will be supplied and the city will take care of garbage pick-up once we're finished. All you need to bring is yourself and the desire to help pick up litter along a small area of our cache-friendly city. A bunch of trash accumulates in this area due to illegal dumping, so a lot of garbage bags will be filled! Let's help keep Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area clean for future geocaching and take this opportunity to say "thank you" to the Cedar Rapids Parks Department for their continuous support of geocaching.

Everyone is welcome to attend the 4th Annual Cedar Rapids CITO Extravaganza!

Please join us at 11:00AM on Saturday April 17th, 2010 at the Head Quarter coordinates (which is) immediately next to the parking coordinates you see at the top of this page. Please arrive between 10:45AM - 11:00AM to sign the log book and receive garbage bags. The log book will be available at all times, so make sure you sign it to be eligible for a prize at the end. The entire event is planned to run 11:00AM - 1:30PM, but could end sooner or later depending on how fast we clean the area. The ground varies greatly consisting of level concrete to very steep rocky hills (reason for the higher terrain rating). The entire area will be full of dirt, grass, twigs, logs, rocks, downed trees, etc. Their is broken glass scattered on the ground as well, so please wear appropriate foot attire. The Cedar Rapids Parks Superintendent also says to not go crazy with picking up all the broken glass. Please be careful and do not pick up anything you're not comfortable with. A creek also runs though this area and trash can be found near the water, so please pick up all the garbage you can within your comfort zone. Don't go near the creek if you're not comfortable. This creek is also our border for how far to clean. Please bring your own water for the duration of the event. Latex gloves will be provided, but we encourage you to bring your own heavy duty work gloves if you have them.

After the event we will award the prizes and to be eligible you must sign the log book. There will be a couple of prizes so be sure to stick around for the conclusion of the event.

Prizes to be won:
  • 1 ammocan
  • 1 unactivated Groundspeak CITO Geocoin
