Geocache Description:

This cache is located near one of the North Lakeland Discovery Center trails. The Discovery Center is an Environmental Education Center near Manitowish Waters. It is located 1.2 miles east of the junction of Highway 51 and County W. At the kiosk near the office you can get a map of the trails and more information about the Discovery Center. GPS units are available for use at the Discovery Center office.

The Discovery Center trails are free and open to the public for hiking, biking snowshoeing and skiing. The trail toward this cache passes the Discovery Center boat launch area. Canoes and kayaks are available for public use--check one out at the office, grab paddles and jackets and head on out! There is no charge to use the boats but donations are gratefully accepted.

As you search for this cache keep the lake to your right.
The box is well hid, it may be out of sight.

They once were alive, but now they are dead.
What a great place to hide. What more could be said?

I could say there are many, I could say they are white.
But to get to the treasure, you have to pick right.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Follow the side trails to find this treasure hidden by the lake. Although this treasure is not right on the water, if you turn around when you find it you can see Statehouse Lake...Good Luck!

Notice all the birch bark on the forest floor. Birch trees tend to rot from the inside first, so often what is left is a hollow tube of bark. These make wonderful places for many critters to hide. Check out those hollow birch logs. You just may find a salamander or a frog--or maybe even a geocache!
