Busflygning över Ljungbyhed 7 oktober 1944
Två amerikanska piloter, som tidigare nödlandat i Ljungbyhed med
sina Mustanger p.g.a. bensinbrist, skulle denna dag förflytta
flygplanen till Västerås.
Innan start sa piloterna till de svenska mekanikerna att nu skulle
svenskarna få se hur man klippte gräs i Amerika.
Efter en stunds busflygning där folk fick kasta sig ner på marken,
tuschade det ena planet i en lind, vars topp flög till marken och
slog av armen på en musikvolontär. Mustangen gick i spinn, slog i
Instruktionsverkstadens tak och vägg för att sen plöja en gata i
skogen framför gamla Hangar 3. Piloten omkom.
Än idag syns spåren efter reparationen av Instruktionsverkstaden,
där teglet på väggen mot hangarerna ser lite annorlunda ut.

Ruff flying over Ljungbyhed 7 Oct 1944
Two american pilots, who had landed i Ljungbyhed during WW2 with
there North American P-51 Mustang should this day (7th October
1944) fly there plane to another Swedish town named Västerås.
Before takeoff they said to the Swedish mechanics that they will
show people in Sweden how they cut the lawn in USA. They did some
ruff flyning over Ljungbyhed and had some people throwing
themselves at the ground. Then one of the pilots hit a tree with
the wing. A part of the tree fell off on a soldier and broke the
soldiers arm. The plane turn into spin, hit the roof and wall of
the building “Training workshop”, and went on through
the wood towards Hangar 3. The pilot died. Even today you can see
the differens in bricks at the wall of the building.
