Ten years on there over a million caches listed on geocaching.com
in over 200 countries around the world, as of January 2010 (info
from wikipedia).
So, let's celebrate on 1st May May 2010 @ 12:30pm
Meet at the Trig Point on the Helm.
Bring a Picnic.
If its raining, well this IS the Lake District (nearly) so it'll go
ahead anyway. Just bring a brolly or two!
I'll try and sort out a few silly games.
Don't forget to dress festively
(whatever that means!)
Alternatively, dress as your favourite character from 'The Hobbit'
or 'Lord of the Rings' (or even 'The Boggit' or 'Bored of the
Rings' if you're so inclined) in keeping with the theme of caches
around here.
For those of you who would like cooked food, there's two
excellent pubs at either end of the Helm.
The Station is at the North end of the Ridge and has a large
outdoor play area for children. The food is good, but relatively
expensive by Kendal standards.
The Punchbowl at Barrows Green is a quieter pub, with equally good
food.
Both pubs have decent sized car parks
Oxenholme The Lake District Station on the West Coast Mainline
is a short walk from the Station Inn. As well as the trains, There
are bus stops at the station
Parking is available at either pub if you're visiting the pubs.
There's also a large Layby on the A65 and several roadside parking
areas on teh Helm road. There's also an (expensive) car park at the
railway station. If you are happy with a longer walk (about a mile
extra) there's a very large car park at ASDA on the A65.
