Welcome to Symington Strolls – a series of 15 traditional caches in and around the area of this delightful South Ayrshire village. This is Number 14 in the series but can also be taken as a cache-n-dash. The complete circuit is under 10 miles long. It loops back through the village and can therefore be done in 2 stages. All these caches can of course also be attempted individually.
During these walks you will encounter the usual caching challenges of terrain, navigation and retrieval. There’s nothing steep to climb but some sections of the series are on tracks which can get a little overgrown and these can also get quite muddy after heavy rain. Wildlife such as roe deer, hawks, squirrels, rabbits, etc may be seen. Where appropriate, additional information regarding safety, parking, etc and occasionally a little history is provided in our notes for each cache. Free parking is available throughout the village. All parking should be in accordance with any local signage, by-laws,etc.
It is a magnetic micro cache and is suitable for wheelchair users. A pencil has been provided but is not guaranteed. The view will improve the higher you get - but don't overdo it. Hansel Village provides residential care for more than 60 residents with learning difficulties, and also provides support for more than 200 clients in the community as well as a wide range of Day Services for both residents and day attenders. Please replace the cache exactly as found.
If continuing to Number 15 in this series, follow the footpath northwards alongside the A77 and turn left into Symington Road South.
If doing this cache as a one-off, parking is available on northbound side of the dual carriageway at N 55° 32.046 W 004° 34.605 (in lay-by) with a continuous paved footpath along the roadside. Unless you use the footbridge, do not park on southbound side and attempt to cross this very busy road on foot – others have tried and failed!
