Geocache Description:

This is the thirteenth cache in my finite mathematical series. I am a math teacher by day. I thought a cache series dedicated to math would be a good way to educate the public.


You will be looking for a nano off the Harbison Neighborhood Trail System.

When hiding this cache, I noticed the fence line looks somewhat like the Greek letter sigma. Sigma is used in mathematics in sequences and series. A sequence is an ordered list of numbers (terms). A series is the value you get when you add up all the terms of the sequence.

There are several special types of sequences/series. In a Geometric series each term after the first is found by multiplying the previous number by a fixed ratio. In Arithmetic series the each term is found by adding a constant.

The most well known may be the Fibonacci Sequence which is found by adding the previous two numbers together. (0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34...) This series is found a lot in nature, and the limit of the series is the Golden Ratio. There are a lot of people that believe in a spiritual/magical/religious connection with this sequence and ratio.
