This is the 4th annual Lake Erie Island Campout! Your hosts,
BlackBrownDog and islander pibteach look forward to a
something-for-everyone weekend with daily self-paced exploration
and evening group campfires at the SBI State Park!
RSVP to the cache page (number of adults and kids in the party
please) by Sept 22 so we may plan for your arrival! If staying on
the island please check in at BBD's base camp so we know where to
find you.
GETTING THERE:
The Miller Ferry leaves
from Catawba Island (really a peninsula) which accommodates
passengers, bikes, and cars. The Miller Ferry takes about 18
minutes to get to the Island and has free parking for your car on
the mainland, if you do not want to take your car to the Island.
KEEP IN MIND, LAST FRIDAY BOAT FROM CATAWBA IS *LEAVES* AT 7:30 PM!
Also, on be careful to note that cars should be in line by SUNDAY 4
PM to guarantee passage off the island on Sunday.
The Jet Express, which
accommodates passengers and bicycles only, operates between
downtown Port Clinton (trips from Sandusky are stopped by this time
of year) to downtown Put-in-Bay. There are fees to park your car on
the mainland. KEEP IN MIND, LAST FRIDAY BOAT FROM PORT CLINTON
*LEAVES* AT 11:30 !
Fares are available at the posted links. If you leave your car on
the mainland, you may want to bring bikes to travel on the island,
rent a golf cart, or pre-arrange transportation to the state park.
If you are concerned about making it to the campground, please
contact the event hosts by email in advance, to get our cell
numbers.
If you plan arrive on the island via your personal watercraft,
please see this link for docking information.
If you plan arrive on the island via your personal aircraft,
please see this link
for airport information.
Alternatively, you could ride over on Lemmy.

CAMPING:
We plan to camp at one of the full hookup sites (there are less
than a dozen of them, reserve and arrive EARLY) at South Bass
Island State Park on Friday and Saturday nights, and this will
serve as the base camp for the "organized" activities. The site
will have a small white travel trailer with a BlackBrownDog wooden
sign so you can find us!
Online registration is available for the park. You don't
register for a specific site here like you would at the other OSP
campgrounds, just a site TYPE. There is other lodging available on
the island and mainland.

EVENT WEEKEND ACTIVITIES:
