This area isn’t the Pactola you see in the movies. This area
is the real Pactola in it’s current natural state.
Park at coordinates 44.02.790 103.29.588 and enter the forest near
marker 340 right next to US 385. It’s about a tenth of a mile
to the “Hit The Road Jack” waypoint (44.02.857
103.29.691), but don’t look for any caches or hints at this
location. This waypoint just gets your feet on some level ground to
make it easier for you trek .07 mile to another cache-less waypoint
(44.02.917 103.29.704) positioned on the old powerline trail. You
crowd through a jackpine jungle down a finger ridge about .09 of a
mile to the cache coordinates listed above.
As you trace the overgrown lanes where the old power-line made
its way over the distant ridges and experience the branch-to-branch
congestion as you near the cache, perhaps you'll come to realize
why many locals consider unmanaged ponderosa pine trees a noxious
weed.
