Geocache Description:

Cache was relocated after 2 years to an area a little closer to the parking area. The container is now a 2" wide and 8" long screw top plastic container.

To get to the cache parking area take Woodman road off of 12b. and parking can be found at N 42.51.260 W 075.34.390 The trail goes north and south from the parking area. The cache is located to the North. Take some time to enjoy the views of woodman pond. This is also a great area for birding. The Chenango Canal Association asked me to help them place a few geocaches along the 6.36 mile Chenango Canal towpath. The Chenango Canal Association is dedicated to preserving, maintaining, and improving the historic Chenango Canal and its towpath. Preservation of the canal. They would like to use geocaching to increase awareness of the canal. The Chenango Canal Association, with (ironically) 9 board members, recognized that this is a historic and recreational treasure, and started the Chenango Canal Project to develop and protect the summit area for the public’s use. The CCA has cleared 5 miles of a 12-foot wide towpath trail to allow hiking, biking, picnicking and horseback riding. Cross-country skiing, canoeing and kayaking. The canal was started in 1834 and all 97 miles were hand dug by as many as 500 men. 116 locks were needed to raise the water to the 706 foot summit in Bouckville and then back down to the Erie Canal in Utica.
