Belfast, Maine Belfast, Northern Ireland

Welcome to Belfast, Maine, the county seat of Waldo County and located at the mouth of the Passagassawakeag River. Known as the Passagassawakeag Patent, it was settled around 1770 by Scots-Irish settlers who renamed it Belfast, after Belfast, Northern Ireland. Like many coastal settlements, it saw it's share during the Revolutionary War as well as the War of 1812. After the war, Belfast flourished as a ship building community, constructing hundreds of masted schooners. As the shipbuilding industry slowed, other industries took over such as seafood, railway and of course the poultry industry. Today, Belfast is home to artisans, Bank of America and a busy tourist area.

Belfast, Northern Ireland is the capital and the largest city in Northern Ireland. It shares a common heritage with Belfast, Maine in that it has a rich shipbuilding history, including the shipbuilders Harland and Wolff, builders of the RMS Titanic. Belfast is certainly the economic engine of Northern Ireland with business, industry and the arts. The area around Belfast has been occupied going back 5000 years, it was granted borough status in 1613 and city status in 1888. Unfortunately, today Belfast and specifically Northern Ireland is known for the period of Troubles, civil conflict between Republican and Loyalist.

Cache is not winter friendly.

Congratulations to EMSDanel for the FTF!
