This cache is a good choice for those wanting more than a roadside, view from the car cache and would like a bit of a hike but aren't looking for a day long endurance test. A great coastal barrens hike that you will very likely see other people doing on a weekend. The cache is just beyond where people normally go.
Suggested starting point of the trail is traditionally at N 44 29.607 / W 63 53.392 (WGS84). If you know the area you might choose an alternate route that will get you there quicker than the 45 - 60 minutes it takes, but hey, the route is half the fun. From the starting point to cache is about 1.5 km depending on where you wonder and how long you linger at the fabulous views of the oceans, islands and abundant life on the "barrens". We made it out and back in 2 hours including the time required to down the hot calabrese & provolone.
The cache container is behind/under a large granite boulder on a steep hillside, reachable
most times along a shoreline in a sheltered cove. It can also be reached roundabout and
descending the hillside.
Contents of the cache at the time it was set include: Logbook with pencil, a golden fish, forget-me-not seeds, an empty pack of Spice Girls Doritos chips from York, U.K. (thanks Ebor), a Discovery Channel lapel pin, a paper money note "10 Customs Gold Units" from the Central Bank of China dated Shanghai 1930 I got from a gumball type machine at Expo 67 and of course... A number of Boylston/ Guysborough County orange quartz crystals...
