Geocache Description:

The reward for visiting this cache is the view. Located above the small village of Attical, the cache is in Mourne Wood, one of the most under used forests in Northern Ireland.

Don't just do a cache and grab, explore this fantastic forest, find the White Water River as it winds through a landscape of mature native trees. Above all enjoy the solitude - not many people ever visit here so it is virtually muggles free!

The cache is the fourth in our collection which comprises of Laura's and Katie's Cache which you can see from this one on Wee Binnigan and Pigeon Rock and Amy's Cache which is just over the mountain at Long Seffin. Poppy's Cache is named after our youngest daughter who one day will hopefully enjoy the scenery from this great site.

Located in Mourne Wood above Attical village. Attical or Atticall (from the Irish: Áit Tí Chathail meaning "place of Cathal's house") is a small village and townland in the Mourne Mountains of County Down, Northern Ireland. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 153 people.

The best approach is go into Attical and then head up the hill toward the transmission aerials and park on the road, close to the lane that goes into the forest. There is plenty of parking space. You should not drive down the lane to the forest.

The cache is less than 1km from the road and it is suitable for buggies. However the gate at the top of the path is normally locked so you will need to lift buggies over the stile.

The Cache

You are looking for a small tab lock box full of the normal trinkets. It should be a quick find but if in doubt look at the hint.

Do take time to explore this forest. If you go over, or round the hill, you will eventually come to the White Water River and you meet the occasional horse and rider as the opposite end of the forest has some fantastic equestrian trails. If you go further again you will arrive at Kilkeel Golf Club which has a fantastic course on the sea side of the forest. Don’t worry, the cache is no where the golf club or the horses!

Challenge

I think this forest has some of the best views of the Mournes. Capture the views when you visit and post your photographs so that overtime we get to see this vista in all seasons and all weathers.
