Geocache Description:


Join us for Breakfast event to celebrate the birth of Geocaching. You will get a special icon and this will be a great start to your geocaching day.

This is the location of the very first event ever held in Dealware (GCHKHM) that started the Delaware Geocachers organization.

Purpose: Celebrate 10 years of geocaching
Date: May 1 (Saturday)
Time: 7am to 8:30 am
Location: Bob Evans Family Resturant
Newark, De


Selective availability was removed on May 1 greatly improving the accuracy of GPS units. Two days later Dave Ulmer placed the first stash in Oregon and published the coordinates to a GPS user group. The stash was found within days and Geocaching was born! It took about 6 months later until a cache was placed in Delaware as the sport slowly grew. There are now over a million caches worldwide, with Delaware contributing over 1,200

This is to be a festive occasion and a pictured is required. To help this along you are requested to wear a unique hat (or costume or unusual dress if you want.

Lets have some fun and celebrate. After talking about the start of geocaching, then you can do what we all like best---go out and find some caches. Or perhaps cache on the way to attend another 10 year celebration such as in Laurel De (GC2648N) or SE Pa.
