  È più che millenaria la storia di Mandello, e palazzi e monumenti sono lì a testimoniarlo. Certo le razzie che nei secoli si sono verificate su tutto il territorio lariano hanno fatto scomparire numerose bellezze artistiche, altre, invece, sono fortunatamente sopravvissute. È il caso della torre di Maggiana, frazione di Mandello, che domina il lago e che è famosa per aver ospitato, nel 1158, Federico Barbarossa. Ma qui, oltre la torre, è tutto il paese a meritare una visita. È infatti un vecchio borgo medievale, pittoresco e, oltre alla splendida posizione, conserva un piccolo centro storico di grande interesse.

   The history of Mandello is more than a thousand years old, and palaces and monuments are there to testify it. Certainly the raids that have occurred over the centuries throughout Larian had disappeared many artistic treasures, while others have fortunately survived. This is the case of tower Maggiana village of Mandello, overlooking the lake that is famous for having hosted, in 1158, Frederick Barbarossa. But here, beyond the tower, is the country that deserves a visit. It is an old medieval village, picturesque and, in addition to great location, has a small historic center of interest.
