Nukata Station, heading to Nara from Osaka to go hiking up the trails. You may start (or end) your hiking here at Nukata Station for food and water.
In days long gone by, before there were trains, the only way to go from the great cities of Osaka to Nara was on foot over these trails that are still well used today by hiking groups from all over Japan and the world. When the first trains finally arrived in the Early 1900`s, Hiraoka Station, just down the road, was the end of the line and the starting point of the trails. The rail line was gradually extended to Nukata, Ishikiri, and the Ikoma Tunnel in 1914, the longest in Japan for many years, completed the train line to Nara.
