Geocache Description:

Queelup Walk begins at the car park at the base of West Mt Barren. It leads up the north-east ridge to the summit (372 metres above sea level). Spectacular views can be seen from the ridge with 360-degree views from the summit. The Stirling Range (over 100 km to the west) can be seen on a clear day. Take in the views to Bremer Bay, Doubtful Islands and the Eyre Range towards Hopetoun. Queelup is the Aboriginal name for West Mt Barren and is thought to mean ‘place of the swamp sheaok.

Sheoaks are found along Queelup Creek, which originates from the western base of the mount.

Strong walking boots or shoes are recommended and walkers should be aware of snakes when taking the walk during the warmer months. Blustery winds may be experienced along the ridge and at the top of the summit.

The walk can be done in less than 30 minutes to the summit allowing time for rest and photo stops. The Coasters placed the cache while in the company of other 4WD enthusiasts who camped at Quaalup Homestead for Easter. Three small people (ages 6 to 10) made the ascent to the summit in 26 minutes.

Be aware that the road to Point Anne may be closed at anytime by DEC who may deem the road to be unsafe eg flooding or extreme fire danger.
