Geocache Description:

John Wellstead built Quaalup Homestead in 1858. Since that time it has been owned by another five owners with the last three owners being responsible for restoration work to the Homestead. Situated between Bremer Bay and Point Anne, the Homestead sits in 40 acres of native bush surrounded by the Fitzgerald River National Park. Current owners of six years Karin and Carsten, from Hamburg, Germany became the sixth owners who fell in love with the Homestead on a trip to Australia some years ago.

The Homestead is part of the Quaalup Homestead Wilderness Retreat and more information is available from the website: www.whalesandwildflowers.com.au

This cache has been placed with the kind permission of Karin and Carsten who loved the concept of Geocaching and when you visit, mention you are looking for the geocache. The Homestead is open to the public most of the year. The retreat may be closed for a period in the winter months while the owners take annual holidays. If unsure about the Homestead being open, you can ring (08) 98374124 for confirmation.

Make sure you spend time with Edna the emu who thinks she is human. Edna followed our group of campers on a 2-hour ridge top walk and followed along like a domesticated canine that just loves attention. When she has had enough, she will wander off for a while and then return for more human company.
