Drumclog is a small South Lanarkshire village that lies in the valley of the Avon Water. It is 5 miles (8K) east of Darvel and 6 miles (10K) southwest of Strathaven. Sand and gravel are quarried nearby and a mile (2K) to the northwest is a monument commemorating the Battle of Drumclog where in 1679 the Government forces led by Graham of Claverhouse were defeated by the Covenanters.
There is a small shingle bank on the river (Glengavel Water) close to this cache where as a lad, Mr Aljo came across an oystercatcher's nest in eggs. Funny how he can remember little things like that but struggles to recall what he did yesterday.
The area is still used by campers and picnickers and sometimes the odd fisherman will try his luck. Apparently it is now part of a 4WD cross country race track so don't be surprised if you see some off-roaders driving up and down the river. Nearby there is a detention centre for illegal immigrants which at one time was HM Prison Dungavel ..... remember to carry your passport.
The cache is a small, unusual camouflaged container. Please replace as found.
