Geocache Description:

Located below Bushy Hill (Radar Hill), South Woodham Ferrers. This is a medium size cache. Enter from the country lane for an easy walk. Or enter from the main road for an up and over walk.

Replaced on 18th June 2012 after the ammo box was stolen from it's hiding place. Gutted as a lot of work went into that particular item :-( Now replaced with a small tupperware type container and position altered slightly to avoid stinging nettles. Coordinates updated.
-----------------------------------------------
Bushy Hill is known locally as "Radar Hill" due to having been visually dominated by a radar testing site. The site has been operated by a number of the former Marconi companies Alenia Marconi Systems to develop radar technology. The hill is technically part of South Woodham Ferrers and lies to the north of the town.

The dissolution of Alenia Marconi Systems in 2005 also saw the unconnected removal of the large radar dish that undoubtedly earned the hill its name. Over the years many rumours have circulated about what goes on there, including that the hill is host to an underground complex or conceals a bunker. Some say these rumours are substantiated by the presence of a partly overgrown entrance in the hillside, some way from the main compound, and by a sign at the guarded main entrance stating "RF Radiation Hazard - All visitors report to site management before working above ground". But the truth is far more mundane, the work is all above ground[citation needed] and the signs are required under Health & Safety legislation.

The site's presence has also been suggested as the cause of a minor amount of subsidence to homes in the north of the town, although the distance between them, alone, would seem to make this unlikely. More likely is the fact that the whole area is made up of clay soil, and therefore 'moves' as shown by the deterioration of some of the local roads and paths.
