The characters
The Events that unfolded
The Results
First we need the characters. So Lets go back to the Year
2000,
the date May 1st! And the President of the United States of
America. Secondly we need a unknown person called Dave Ulmer,
The
date May 3rd
Now we need to know the events as they unfolded. May 1st and
President Clinton announces that the Selective scrambling of the
GPS signal is to be switched off! This means civilian users of
GPSr's will no longer have errors of over 100m. On May 2nd,
Selective Availability is turned off! May 3rd and Dave Ulmer goes
out and places a container with some swaps in it. And posts the
coordinates on the Internet. And that lead to the world Wide hobby
of Geocaching being created.
The Results, 10 Years on and over a Million Active Geocaches
later. Geocachers around the world are getting together at Events
to celebrate the switching off of SA.

And Finally (yes I know your feed up of reading by now) The
Account Name at the top of the page is not a mistake. I owe a huge
debt to Geocaching. I've made a huge amount of Friends, becoming a
Reviewer has given me a huge boost in confidence [four years ago, I
couldn't have stood up in a room full of people and spent a hour
doing a Q&A]. So as this is a One off Event, as a Thank You.
I'm giving a one off chance to attend a event organised by a
Reviewer and not the Alter Ego.
