Geocache Description:

peanut butter jar in some old tree wood.no access from I80 there is a frontage rd just south off 5600 west.you will have to walk a short bit past the gate.also the area may get a little wet after rain.

the old tracks ran to saltair from down town.the resort was one great thing back in the day.in 1893 alone some 100,000 visitors passed through the gates and in 1919 it was 450,000.at that time the population of slc was only 50,000.the line was called Salt Lake garfield and western. in 1919 the rail was electrified.a fire at saltair april 1925 wiped out part of it.they rebuilt some and were still making it work.the fare was .25 cents and still filled the trains every 45 min.the resort closed from 1943 to1945 for ww2 by the 50s the rail was having a hard time because more people were driving there. In 1955 another fire hit and took out most of the bath houses.the roller coaster was blown over by a big wind in 1957 the park closed down.the rail sat idle and were pulled back to salt plant in the late 70s. the rail still near here is used for the international center.if you look to the west you can see where the old bed used to be also there is an old car about 3 or 4 miles west on the north side of I80.just have to wonder the things that have changed in life and travel.
