Geocache Description:

Beinn Dorain is one of the most well known mountains in Scotland and it is well seen from the A82 past Tyndrum heading North. Both the West Highland Way and the West Highland Railway hug its sides and its steepness might intimidate many who would wish to climb it. In fact there is an easy route starting at Bridge of Orchy which is described in the nearby cache 'North or South?!' From that cache location, in the bealach, head South for about 500m before turning West towards a small lochan. From there head South again and you should eventually reach a large cairn after about a mile. BE WARNED: in bad weather it would be easy to think that this is the summit! In fact the true summit lies another 200m South of this and the cache another 50m past that. The cache is situated to take in the best views but does not involve descending any steep slopes or crags so if in any doubt please look at the spoiler picture.

Please be aware that in good conditions this is still a strenuous walk but in bad conditions extreme care should be taken as it can be very dangerous. Weather conditions can change in a matter of minutes and all the usual warnings apply when walking up munros. The following points should be observed (Thanks Snaik!)

You are responsible for your own safety.
Are you fit enough to complete your chosen walk in the available time?
Know where you are going on the walk and follow the route on your map.
If in a Group know how many are in your party and stay together, never split up.
Ensure you have enough food plus emergency rations
Carry a map & compass, survival bag, torch, whistle and small first aid kit. Know how to use them.
In severe winter conditions you must carry an ice axe. You are also recommended to carry crampons.
Learn how to use your equipment
Cold temperatures will reduce the life of your batteries
Please leave your route with a responsible person.
