Trinity parish church - (bus route no.4), the only parts
that date back to the 12th century are the spire and tower. The
chancel was rebuilt a 100 years later and in the middle of the 19th
century the old medieval foundations.
Two relics of when Catholic services were held in the church are
the silver chalice – the oldest in the island – and the
wooden pews or misericords in the chancel, with their carved
undersides which could be raised for the priests to lean against
during long periods of standing in the lengthy services. The pews
in the nave are of a Victorian type.
The 3 unusual features of the church are (a) it only has 1
aisle; (b) its organ loft and choir are over the west door; (c) it
is the only church in the island to be named after a saint. La
Sainte Trinite which is the origin of the parish crest. The
initials PFSD stand for Peter, Filius, Spiritus Sanctus and
Deus.
