Geocache Description:

A cache that honors the third President of the United States of America and one our nation's greatest Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 – July 4, 1826) was the third President of the United States (1801–1809), the principal author of the Declaration of Independence (1776), and—for his promotion of the ideals of republicanism in the United States—one of the most influential Founding Fathers. Jefferson envisioned America as the force behind a great "Empire of Liberty" that would promote republicanism and counter the imperialism of the British Empire. Major events during his presidency include the Louisiana Purchase (1803) and the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804–1806), as well as escalating tensions with both Britain and France that led to war with Britain in 1812, after he left office.

This is our first cache (DBuntz and Swanny320) and also the first cache in our "Historical Cache Site" series. Everything in the cache is related to Thomas Jefferson and we want to keep it that way! Feel free to take an item, but we simply ask that you leave an item that is Jeffersonian in nature.

Congrats to hzoi for being FTF!! Hzoi took a copy of "The Billionaire's Vinegar" as the FTF prize.

The original contents are as follows:

- A crisp $2 bill
- (2) Jefferson Nickels head series (3 nickels each with a different profile)
- Monticello keychain
- (2) Jefferson pencils
- Monticello stickers
- (3) Thomas Jefferson postcards
- Monticello hiking staff medallion
- Copy of the Declaration of Independence
- Monticello pen

The cache can be accessed via the Saunders-Monticello Trail. If you park at the Monticello Visitor's Center (no fee to park) and access the trail, you will begin your search for the cache when the boardwalk ends.

If you access the trail from the west side of the Saunders-Monticello Trail, this will be the fourth in a series of increasingly difficult caches you will encounter along the trail.

Good luck!
